Saturday in the Park

It was a tough job, but somebody has to do it. How else would all the cars be able to cross the Hudson River on the Tappan Zee Bridge if someone didn't hold it up? Corrin took a ride on a carousel in Bushnell Park (Hartford, CT) that was as old as her great-grandfather would have been if he were still alive (1914). She liked the fact that the horse tails were made out of real horse hair.
Corrin's highlight of the day: Horan's Landing (where bridge photo was taken)
Grandma's highlight: the carousel
Kiri's highlight: getting another state capitol photo (below)
Favorite photo of the day:

Observations so far

1. Older people and little people sleep a long time

2. Little kids are afraid of automatic toilets (don't know why I never thought about that, they scare me sometimes when they flush early!)

3. You're never too old to sleep with stuffed animals (my Eeyore enjoyed the company of Pinkie, Sunshine, and Emily last night)

Cornfields

Day 1 comes to a close. We made it to Bethlehem, PA (home of my alma mater) after a late start and sucky traffic on the way to Frederick. I asked Corrin, my niece, what was her highlight of the day and she said all the farms we passed. We're staying at a Holiday Inn Express, so tomorrow we'll be able to do anything!

Road Trip Day 1

I'm New England bound with my Mom and my Niece for a little road trip. Hoping to see puffins! Check back to follow our travel...

Milestone

Look, I hit 55,555 in my car today (well, yesterday now really I guess). I've had the car for almost 4 years...I know, I know, a disgrace to the family with such low mileage! (please ignore all the dust)

Oh My, How Dilly Has Grown!

My latest favorite pics of Dilly:
"alien kitty"
Lisa's saying "Do I have to play with her now?"
for size comparison, so you can see how big Dilly is getting (no, Ginger hasn't gotten any smaller!)

Rock Creek Bike Ride

I went for my 3rd bike ride with the DC Cycling Chicks today. I biked from home to the park just over the Maryland border where we met, biked with the group, then biked back home.
Oops!
We're done!

We started near the Meadowbrook Stables

I'm back from London

Had a great time in London for my summer class! Here are a couple of photos of the places I was able to go...in my spare time.
Where I stayed - dorms for University of Westminster
View from my flat
THURSDAY EVENING
The British Museum - saw most of Rome, what isn't still there at least
SATURDAY - group trip to points outside of London
Windsor Castle - the Queen was home when we were there
Salisbury Cathedral - only cathedral in the UK that is all one style
Stonehenge, need I even tell you
SUNDAY - although it looked stormy most of the day, it never actually rained, weird for London
Buckingham Palace - saw the changing of the guards, with about a million other people!
Tower Bridge (no, not London Bridge)
Tower of London - saw the crown jewels...and where they beheaded people, nice combo
THURSDAY - the only day it really rained while I was there, but the sun came back out
Look kids...Big Ben, Parliament (got to sit in on a hearing earlier in the week as part of our class activities)
Westminster Abbey - very cool! lots of famous dead people buried here
The National Gallery at Trafalgar Square - saw all those paintings that you had to memorize the 5 things about in art history class

I'm in London, but...

...wanted to post this cool rainbow I saw on Monday. See the faint second rainbow? They both went across the entire DC sky!

African Massage

If you want to learn how to speak mountain gorillan or what an African Massage is, check out this podcast about the Rwandan mountain gorillas: http://podcast.prx.org/nature/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/nsp-120.mp3. I had the amazing experience of visiting the gorillas when I was in Rwanda last year.

WEF

I started my summer internship this past Monday at WEF - Water Environment Federation, a non-profit professional development organization. So far, so good. Can't beat having the company picnic on your 2nd day! I'm working in Technical and Education Services, as well as Government Affairs.

1st Semester Survivors Brunch

We also survived a torrential downpour getting to the restaurant yesterday! But we all had a good time and are looking forward to the next brunch...when I'm sure we'll have more to complain about regarding our summer classes.
